Check out where the torch is going http://www.yougottabehere.ca/torch_relay/

On February 11th at around 2:15 pm the Olympic torch is being run right past the MOBY Greenway, our Local Heros pathway. Soon there will many Canadian athletes winning medals at the games and our hats go off the them they will be heros, but we want to hear about local heros who have contributed to the wonderful East Vancouver. Come by 12th and Commercial Dr to cheer on the torch, and remember to tell us about your Local Hero.

On June 5th 2010 we will be honouring 2  Local Heroes. Heroes like your neighbour who organizes street clean ups, or volunteers tirelessly with a local non profit, the teacher who goes the beyond extra mile for their students. MOBY wants to hear about the people you know who are doing amazing things for East Vancouver but perhaps no one else knows how great they are. So make a nomination today!

The rules are simple:

  • The nominee needs to have impacted East Vancouver in a positive way.
  • Tell us their story in 250 words or less.
  • We will need the names and contact information of the 2 people nominating the local hero. These nominators can request to remain anonym.
  • A person can only nominate 1 person per year.
  • Nominations must be in by 5pm April 30th 2010. Emailed to moby_lize@yahoo.ca or mailed to 101 1868 E 11th Ave Vancouver BC V5N 1Z1
  • The nominee‘s name will remain in the contention for the Local Hero’s Pathway Award for 3 years after the nomination.

The nominee can be alive today or have past. This hero could be a firefighter who has rescued your dog from a burning building, or business person whose contributions have made your community a better place to live. Please think about all the people in your East Vancouver neighbourhood who make a difference.  This is an award to celebrate the unsung heroes.

M.O.B.Y. is about community; bring neighbours together to make a happy place for all to play, meet and honour our Local Heroes.
